I recently reviewed the latest SAPS crime statistics. Though it might be sobering to the government that rape has decreased since 2001 - to me even if 1 rape is reported, that is 1 too many. Their stats also do not take into account the incidents that go unreported.

These are the stats and my summation :

Between April and September 2007 - 22 887  people who were raped reported it.

From April 2006 - September 2007 - Just under 55 000 rapes were reported.

This would equate to : 62 rreported apes a day in 5 months in 2007.

Since 2001 - over 150 000 rapes occurred. In April-September 2007 , 8 925 murders occurred. 

It's important to note again that these are only the reported rapes. From this website alone, the majority of rape survivors have not reported it.   

Sad.

Please can you clarify the statistics- if you look at 2006/2007 stats- it is just under 55 000 reported cases. The stats that you have printed are from April to September 2007- not a full year and not a real reflection of reality.

You are correct, these stats are based on only April-September 2007. If you take April 2006 through to September 2007, the total reported rape cases does reach +/- 55 000.  
Regardless the total, as I mentioned even 1 is 1 too many. Thank you for the clarification, I will update the statistic information in the main article.
